Finding motivation by punching out the pain of others

I shared these raw emotions on my Facebook page recently, and it spawned the beginning of a series, #30daysofintention, cataloging a journey of mental and physical change beyond myself. If I can add you to my prayer list, please send me a message: [email protected]

Current emotions: nervous, 😬 excited πŸ™‚ and a little bit emotional πŸ˜₯.

Yesterday I found out one of my hospitalized patients passed away. She wasn't even 25. That's just not okay. She, like anyone else, deserved a MUCH longer, happier life and motherhood.

When you work in healthcare, sometimes you get numb to how sad 😭 and beyond your control things can be. It's a survival mechanism--a really sucky, realistic one.

But I got to thinking about how we ALL have these modes where we numb our senses--not because it makes us happier, but because it seems easier for now.

It's as simple ignoring that important talk you need to have with a family member or letting your own desires for yourself slip silently to the back burner for the 11th month in a row, because you're too "busy" to take that time for yourself.

On Monday, I found out I had an opportunity to be in a test group for a new 30 day MMA (read: fight moves πŸ‘Š) fitness and nutrition program. What does that mean? Well, it's on me to be the most accountable I've EVER been to practicing what I preach---consistent, nutritious whole foods and exercise that doesn't suck (too bad anyway).

And I'm seriously nervous AF . 😳 And thought about turning it down, because that would be WAY easier. I don't know know if I can do this! (I mean, it's so easy to cheat during the most tempting πŸ¦ƒπŸŒ²season of the year and those damn artificially colored chocolate covered pretzels at work that give me a headache just keep πŸ—£SCREAMING MY NAME!)....

So....I HAVE to find something higher, something greater to keep showing up everyday. πŸ™ So I decided my reason(s) will be YOU. You pain, your crosses, your struggles. 'Tis the season. 🎁

Everyday next month, I'm getting my rear πŸ™ŽπŸ» up for one of you. I'll put your name in my alarm πŸ“± and hang it on my wall. πŸ—“ I'll pray for you when I wake, for the demons πŸ‘Ώ you're fighting and struggles your family is facing. And then I'll go downstairs, push play πŸ“Ί and punch the sh*% out of those problems for you. Every day for someone different. Because if I know, in my head, that I'm getting up πŸ’€ and doing something for someone else, I'm much less likely to fail than if I'm only trying to be accountable for myself. πŸ’―

-->So please, IF I CAN SET MY INTENTIONS TO PRAY πŸ™ FOR YOU AND KICK THE CRAP πŸ’©OUT OF YOUR TROUBLES one morning next month, send me a note and I'll put your name on my calendar. πŸ—“

(And if you feel inspired to do something for yourself and/or others, I'm allowed to invite 2 ✌️ others to join the test group with me through the end of the year. If that's full, I'll still be running a regular group to roll the punches with my peeps that also said they want to be prepared next time they meet someone scary in a dark alley. So no worries, I've got you covered if you want the best health you're ready to fight for πŸ‘Š this holiday season.)

Either way, please stop ignoring your struggles and yourself this season, just because it seems easier now. You CAN punch those problems in the face; you just have to believe that you can.
